This is a watercolor sketch of gisaeng, the well educated, multi-talented women entertainers of the Goryeo (918 - 1392) and Joseon (Chosun, 1392 - 1910) dynasties in Korea. They’re often depicted in old paintings and contemporary historical dramas with huge, piled-on braids, elaborate hanbok costumes, exquisite norigae ornaments, and all sorts of fancy shit. Wouldn’t it be awesome to do an entire comic about gisaeng, in complete watercolor?! Coming to you in … 2025!
