DON’T EVEN KNOW HOW TO DIE

I just completed this watercolor for Chris D., based on a scene from the Nagisa Oshima film, “BOY”:

Here’s the black & white inked drawing, before watercolor:

Chris says: “I requested this commission from Hellen and will propose to THE CRITERION COLLECTION to book her for the cover art for the future release of BOY.” I know, right?!

    beautiful, stark, simple. Just right. So bummed I missed the film when it was at the PFA, but knowing the plot quite well, I think this is such a perfect rendering. Plus the wee one’s face breaks my heart

    fucking gorgeous Hellen - damn. I like the minimalist rendering/coloring of the snow-hole they’re sitting in.
